In April, The Shreveport Writer’s Club met at the Shreve Memorial Broadmoor Branch Library.
We had a member who received a “Making the Mark Award”. They earned the pen by putting their creative work out in the public. Each member can do this by entering contests, getting their work published and many other outlets.
The topics of the Flash Writing exercise were: “A Pirate’s Life”, “It tasted like…”, “Not for you”, “A better life” and of course Topic of choice.
Members always come up with interesting and creative poems, short stories and journals with these topics. One member even combines all of the topics to create one story.
Each club member can go to teespring.com to order a Shreveport Writer’s Club t-shirt. Just type in “Shreveport Writer’s Club” and it will take you directly to the shirt.
During the meeting, each member spoke about where they were on thier writing journey. This opened up a discussion for sharing writing tips and experiences.
A discussion of the importance of character writing ended the meeting. The members came to a conclusion that the characters that we write about must be memorable in order for our readers to relate and come back to them.
Our next meeting will be this Saturday, May 6th, at the Broadmoor Branch Library in Shreveport, Louisiana. It will be held from 10am-12pm. Visitors are always welcome and remember to “Write on!”
