Limerick Funzies

Hey, writer! You have a right to write for funzies!

And through St. Patrick’s Day—March 17, 2022—we’ll be highlighting limericks written by SWC members, Facebook page members, and friends.

Submit yours on the SWC Facebook page for approval and posting. If you’re not on Facebook, email to shreveportwritersclub@gmail.com. We will also be sharing this to our blog.

What defines a limerick is easily found in Wikipedia and via Google, but see the image for a famous example that’s well done and Louisiana appropriate.

Below, you will also find a limerick—of sorts—written especially for this SWC event. It is not intended as a model! But we do encourage you to mind the helpful guidelines it provides.

“They may be rude, ribald, bawdy, risqué
But on Facebook, the rules do rule the day
The joke need not be naughty
And can’t be mean or snotty
But a limerick should make somebody pay”

Seriously, folks…keep it kind, but snarky is fine.

Now, let’s see your funny bone!

Writers Medley and Shreveport Art Club Collab Reminders

REMINDERS:
The Writers Medley is around the corner. There are a few 5 and 10 minute slots left. Please e-mail is at shreveportwritersclub@gmail.com before June 2nd to let us know if you are participating.

The event with the Shreveport Art Club is around the corner. I want to take at least 25 poems to their June 4th meeting, for their members to pick from to paint. Remember, your work will be hung with an inspired piece at the Louisiana Exhibit Museum in August for the public to see. The work must be able to fit on an 8.5×11 document in 14 point Times New Roman font. You can send your doc. as an attachment to shreveportwritersclub@gmail.com.

Author Opportunity

Post from Alyssia Kirkhart with permission to share with the Shreveport Writers Club

All right, you guys! 😃 Today, I met with Bossier Parish Librarians Kristen Edson and Dedra York about an author event that will be held at the central library (right by City Hall) and open to the public.
. . .
The date and time frame we picked is SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29th from 10-4.
. . .
We will open with an author panel compiled of traditionally and independently published authors who will answer questions from an audience of writers and readers. Then, we’ll break for lunch, which will be provided. Afterwards, audience members will be able to share their work, either by reading it aloud or sitting down with an author who writes in their genre or with whomever they feel comfortable. This by no means obligates anyone to extend services past the close of the event. 👩‍💻
. . .
Our goal is to encourage local writers of all ages (and readers…we can’t leave them out! 😉) to keep going. To not give up. To pursue their passion, no matter what. We’ve all been there at one point or another. And when that encouragement we needed came along, we were grateful. Right? ✌️
. . .
ALSO: There will be a separate “Expo” room, where everyone is encouraged to set up banners, posters, author swag and published works that will be open for sale to the public. 📚
. . .
There is NO LIMIT to the amount of local published authors we can have. So, if you want to do the event, you’re in. Period. Promotions will go out via social media, radio, television and newsprint. 💖
. . .
Feel free to post and ask questions here or, if you’d rather, email me at auroradreampress@gmail.com. If you want to be a part of the event, simply say so with a comment, and I will put you down as an attending artist/panelist. Cheers! 🍸
