There are lots of people here and food and refreshments for sale.

Health and Beauty Fair at Urgent EMS
We have our tent set up at the Health and Beauty Information Fair hosted by Queerport at Urgentcare EMS on Market.
Writing has a lot of mental and emotional health benefits and we’re hoping to reach out to our community more.
Come by to check out all of the health and beauty informtion that can be found around Shreveport.
Others are also getting their tents up and yes, there’s a coffee tent! There are also two food trucks coming in!

LGBTQ+ Health and Resource Fair
This April 30th, we will have a table at the local lgbtq+ health and beauty fair at Urgent EMS.
We will hand out club fliers and have a sign up sheet for anyone interested in getting club updates.
We will set up at 9:30. The fair starts at 11am.
Anyone is welcome to come by to help set up the tent, table, and chairs, and check out the other resources the fair has to offer.

Halloween Bash and Potluck and More!
The Shreveport Writers Club teamed up with members from the Shreveport Art Club for a fun, creative Halloween celebration. Writer’s wrote about “spooky” artwork and visual artists created artwork to accompany “scary” writings. The event was held at The Agora Borealis in downtown Shreveport.

The next regular meeting for Shreveport Writers Club will be Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the Broadmoor Branch Library from 10 am to 12 pm.
Special guest, local author Elizabeth Godfrey, will be sharing her journey in completing her vampire triology series. Elizabeth will talk about her books, “Once Bitten, Twice Cursed”, “Crossing Stars” and, “Incendia”.
Visitors are always welcome.

Shreveport Writers Club Welcomes Jus’ Marvin in September
The special guest speaker for Shreveport Writers Club’s September meeting will be Marvin Smith, poetically known as “Jus’ Marvin.”
Jus’Marvin is a poet, spoken word artist and actor from Shreveport, Louisiana. He has performed in Shreveport, Alexandria, San Antonio, College Station and more. His work has been featured at Write About Now , Bayou City Poetry Slam, Texas Grand Slam Poetry Festival and at Shreveport Regional Arts Council’s Critical Mass.
Jus’ Marvin is the founder of Notebook Assassins, an artist association that encourages collaboration and cooperation.
He will share his work, insights and thoughts about the art and power of poetry during the meeting.

The next Critique Group meeting will meet at the Broadmoor Library, Study Room B, on September 21st, 2019 from 10 am until noon. You are invited to bring a short piece of writing to share or you may simply attend and give helpful, constructive advice to others.

Paired Expressions Exhibit Opening
On Sunday, August 4th, 2019 marked the opening of “Paired Expressions: Visual and Lyrical Art,” a collaboration between artists and writers from the Shreveport Writers Club and the Shreveport Art Club.
Shreveport Writers Club members were tasked with sending poetry in to Shreveport Art Club members. The visual artists created artwork inspired by the poems. In turn, the visual artists then asked the writers to respond to their art pieces.
The resulting “paired expressions” are on display through August 23rd at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum, 3015 Greenwood Rd in Shreveport Louisiana.
Many thanks to the Shreveport Art Club for helping to make this exciting exhibit happen! Thanks to all the writers and visual artists for their contributions. There wouldn’t be a show without you!

July Meeting Venue Change
The Shreveport Writer’s Club will hold its regular monthly meeting on July 6th. Please note: VENUE CHANGE. The meeting will now be held at The Agora Borealis, 421 Lake St in Shreveport. The meeting starts at 10 am and should wrap up around noon.
This month, SWC warmly welcomes writer Mack Swans. He will present, “Speaking in Pen,” with insights on how he began writing, his influences and perspective on the art of writing.

Writer’s Medley 2019
The Shreveport Writers Club held their semi-annual Writer’s Medley on Friday, June 7th in the venue space at The Agora Borealis in Shreveport.
The writers shared food, fun and their writing with other members and assembled guests.
The Agora Borealis provided each reader with a complimentary ink and quill set!
Thanks to the friends and family who came out to support the efforts of local writers. Thanks also goes out to The Agora Borealis for being such awesome hosts!

February Meeting
The Shreveport Writers Club held its February meeting in the Reading Room of the Shreve Memorial Library Hamilton/South Caddo Resource Center in Shreveport.
The writers and guests welcomed special guest, Maple Sudds, author of the autobiography No Blood in the Turnip: Memoirs of a Co-Dependent.
Ms. Sudds read excerpts from the book and talked about how it came to be. She stressed the importance of persevering to tell one’s story and shared her process of learning about herself through writing. She said she hoped to offer hope, healing and understanding to others through her book.
Ms. Sudds answered questions from the audience and discussed how writing the book has impacted her life and her family.
Ms. Sudds sold and signed copies of her book for patrons.

After a short break, the meeting continued with some business discussion and the monthly Flash Writing Exercise.
The February Critique Group meeting will be held at Retro 521 Cafe in Bossier on February 16th from 10 AM to noon. Writers may bring a short piece of writing for critique or just come to offer support, helpful advice and encouragement to other writers.
Shreveport Writers Club next regular meeting will be March 2nd from 11 Am to 1 PM at the Shreve Memorial Library-Broadmoor Branch, 1212 Captain Shreve Drive in Shreveport. March Critique Group is also planned for 11 Am to 1 PM at the same location on March 16th.
